Estimation of Horizontal Displacements for Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Wall
Nowadays, the geotechnical design trend is increasingly heading towards the serviceability limit state. However, the current practice in the design of geosynthetic reinforced soil (GRS) walls mostly relies on ultimate limit state. Commonly available design software programs provide typical factor of safety values against various failure modes.

Analysis of Horizontal Pile Displacement Caused by Pit Excavation
Abstract In the case of thick soft and unstructured soils, pit excavation causes 20-75% of pile heads to have higher-than-normal horizontal displacements. The paper presents the results of statistical analysis for 9865 piles installed in pile fields at 17 construction sites in St. Petersburg, Perm, and Volgograd.

Factors influencing hysteresis characteristics of concrete dam deformation
Thermal deformation of a concrete dam changes periodically, and its variation lags behind the air temperature variation. The lag, known as the hysteresis time, is generally attributed to the low velocity of heat conduction in concrete, but this ...

Horizontal Displacement: Theoretical Considerations
The basic aim of the study was to conduct a conceptual analysis of Piaget's hypothesis on horizontal displacement (HD hypothesis). This part of theory has not been sufficiently elaborated by Piaget himself and has been frequently criticized as the weakest link in the Piaget's theory. Some basic concepts of the Piaget's theory (global stage of cognitive

Sideways displacement and curved path of recti eye muscles [PDF]
We investigated the sideways displacement of recti muscles with the eye in various gaze-positions by making computed tomographic (CT) scans in a plane perpendicular to the muscle cone, posterior to the globe.

Influence of Occurrence Characteristics of Weak Interlayer on Slope Stability
Based on the engineering problem that the mechanical properties of weak interlayer are poor and the slope is easy to destroy, the numerical calculation model with weak interlayer is established by FLAC3D.
