Offshore Postseismic Deformation of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Revisited: Application of an Improved GPS‐Acoustic Positioning Method Considering Horizontal Gradient of Sound Speed Structure

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2019
One of the important issues on the GPS‐acoustic (GPS‐A) observation for sea bottom positioning is how to address the horizontal heterogeneity of the sound speed in oceans.

Interpretation of CHAMP magnetic anomaly data over the Pannonian Basin region using lower altitude horizontal gradient data

open access: yesActa Geodaetica Et Geophysica, 2013
The ESA SWARM mission will have three earth orbiting magnetometer bearing satellites one in a high orbit and two side-by-side in lower orbits. These latter satellites will record a horizontal magnetic gradient.

A multi-linear transient pressure model for multistage fractured horizontal well in tight oil reservoirs with considering threshold pressure gradient and stress sensitivity

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
In general, tight oil reservoirs has a numerous tiny and complicated throats, and ultra-low permeability, which leads to a low-velocity non-Darcy flow when the fluid flows in tight reservoirs.

Frontogenesis in a fluid with horizontal density gradients

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1989
The adjustment under gravity of a fluid containing a horizontal density gradient is described.’ The fluid is initially at rest and the resulting motion is calculated as the flow accelerates, driven by the baroclinic density field. Two forms of the initial density distribution are considered. In the first the initial horizontal gradient is constant.

Temperature gradients in horizontal tube furnaces

Thermochimica Acta, 1986
Abstract Radial temperature differences in a 1 in. diameter horizontal tube furnace similar to those used in thermogravimetry were measured as a function of purge gas flow rate and pressure at temperatures from 25 to 525°C. The temperature difference between a thermocouple at the tube axis and one 0.8 cm off center was 45°C at 400°C, 1 atm pressure ...

The effect of horizontal gradients on thermohaline convection

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1969
When the vertical boundaries of a container of stratified brine solution are heated, cells are observed to form in the brine with a layered structure. An explanation of this phenomenon has been given in terms of the successive growth of cells from the top and bottom of the container.

A Note on Horizontal Gradients in Fjords

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1977
Abstract Observations from the Oslofjord show that the transverse gradients of temperature and density are of the same order of magnitude as those in the longitudinal direction of the fjord. A comparison between current measurements and computed geostrophic current shows good agreement.

Effects of Measurement Error on Horizontal Hydraulic Gradient Estimates

Groundwater, 2006
Abstract During the design of a natural gradient tracer experiment, it was noticed that the hydraulic gradient was too small to measure reliably on an ∼500‐m 2 site. Additional wells were installed to increase the monitored area to 26,500 m 2
