Tofacitinib Regulates β‐Catenin Nuclear Translocation to Inhibit FLS Migration and Alleviate Clinical Symptoms of RA

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Tofacitinib is a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor approved for the treatment of moderate‐to‐severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, its synovium‐related molecular mechanisms, particularly its regulatory effect on fibroblast‐like synoviocyte (FLS) migration, remain incompletely understood.

Evaluation of inhaled antimicrobials as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis
Background Nebulized antibiotics show notable efficacy owing to their significant local concentrations and provide safety with low blood levels. In addition to these measurements, duration of hospitalization, ICU stay, days used to administer antibiotics,

Discrepant Urinary Findings Between Dipstick Protein and Sulfosalicylic Acid Test in a Patient With Hyaline Casts: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
In this post‐transplant patient, increased hyaline casts with negative dipstick protein but positive SSA testing occurred during evolving acute kidney injury and resolved with renal recovery. This discordant urinalysis pattern may warrant confirmatory protein testing and correlation with serial renal function in patients at high risk of AKI.

Trends in hospitalizations for vaccine‐preventable diseases in the United States from 2014 to 2024

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Vaccination rates have declined in recent years, resulting in outbreaks of vaccine‐preventable diseases (VPDs) among children. We aimed to evaluate VPD hospitalization rates from 2014 to 2024 and to report associated trends in outcomes including intensive care utilization, mortality, readmissions, and costs.

Comparison of machine learning methods for prediction of venous thromboembolism among hospitalized adults

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hospital‐acquired venous thromboembolism (HA‐VTE) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized adults. Accurate prediction of HA‐VTE is crucial for timely intervention and prevention. While logistic regression is widely used for the development of clinical prediction models, there is ongoing interest in the ...

The association between sociodemographic and clinical factors and outcomes among inpatients with community‐acquired pneumonia

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a leading cause of hospitalization and mortality. The influence of sociodemographic characteristics on adverse outcomes in adults hospitalized with CAP remains poorly understood, particularly for patients younger than 65.

Variation in blood culture testing in children hospitalized with three common infections

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Routine blood culture (BCx) testing in uncomplicated community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP), skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI), and urinary tract infections (UTI) has demonstrated low clinical utility. Objectives To evaluate hospital‐level BCx testing trends and their association with clinical outcomes for children hospitalized ...

Hospital-acquired pneumonia in intensive care patients

open access: yes, 2013
The present thesis describes the incidence and risk factors for pneumonia and especially ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) among Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. Bacteria in samples from the lower respiratory tract of patients receiving mechanical
