Little work has been done on strategies for prevention of HAP. This review aims to describe potential HAP prevention strategies and the evidence supporting them.

Due to rising multidrug resistant bacteria an appropriate, empiric and targeted therapy is essential and requires an accurate assessment of risk for multidrug resistant bacteria. A targeted, temporal therapy is indispensable and should begin after a focussed diagnosis.
