A NEW HOSPITAL DISCHARGE LETTER
The Lancet, 1973Abstract The present hospital discharge letter is unsatisfactory. An alternative letter is proposed which overcomes some of the current defects and provides the primary-care physician with a document on which he can base future management plans.

Tardive Dyskinesia and Hospital Discharge
The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, 1980Two hundred ninety-three schizophrenic inpatients were rated for dyskinetic movements on the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS). Two years later, discharge status on 265 of these patients was related to the AIMS ratings. Results indicated that the discharge group had significantly lower AIMS ratings than the nondischarged group.

The sample included adults aged 18 years and older hospitalized in 16 states in 2010 or 2011 for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia, or total hip or joint arthroplasty.

The impact of hospital discharge on inappropriate hospital stay
International Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance, 2004Appropriate hospital stay should be effective, efficient and tailored to patient needs. Previous studies have found that on average 20 per cent of hospital stay is inappropriate. Within obstetrics, inappropriate hospital stay consists mostly of delays in hospital discharge.
