A LITERATURE REVIEW OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE, HEALTH STATUS AND PROSTHESIS SATISFACTION IN OLDER PATIENTS WITH A TRANS-TIBIAL AMPUTATION

open access: yesCanadian Prosthetics & Orthotics Journal, 2020
BACKGROUND: Several reviews have been published regarding quality of life (QoL) and Health Status (HS) in persons with lower limb amputation (LLA). However, little has been discussed in the literature with respect to older populations (i.e. age>60 years)

Remote Control of Hand Actuators via Glove Sensors for Medical Care Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel textile‐based sensory glove–actuator system for remote medical care, explored through finite element simulations. By integrating capacitive sensors, pneumatic actuators, and machine learning, the system models real‐time hand movement control.

Readmission diagnoses after hospitalization for severe sepsis and other acute medical conditions.

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2015
Readmission Diagnoses After Hospitalization for Severe Sepsis and Other Acute Medical Conditions Patients are frequently rehospitalized within 90 days after having severe sepsis.1 Little is known, however, about the reasons for readmission and whether ...

Compact Multichannel Plasmonic Device for Rapid and Versatile Inflammatory Biomarker Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
A multichannel plasmonic biosensor has been developed for the simultaneous detection of up to four inflammatory biomarkers relevant to sepsis diagnostics. Its performance has been optimized, and analytical validation has been conducted for the detection in diluted serum, highlighting its potential for clinical applications.

Efficacy and safety of advanced hybrid closed loop systems in children with type 1 diabetes younger than 6 years

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundTight glycemic control is essential for the normal growth and development of preschool children. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of advanced hybrid closed loop (AHCL) systems in a real-life setting in children younger than 6 ...

Revealing Cell‐Free Mitochondrial DNA Breakage Patterns as Novel Biomarkers for Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Uncovering distinct plasma cfmtDNA breakage patterns opens new frontiers for early sepsis detection and prognosis. Unique cleavage hotspots in RNR2 and COX2 regions outperform traditional biomarkers, while mechanistic insights suggest bacterial endonuclease involvement.

Cytoplasmic lattices are not linked to mouse 2-cell embryos developmental arrest

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2018
Cytoplasmic lattices are important regulators of oocyte maturation. They store components of the protein synthesis machinery including ribosomes and, among others, they are involved in the regulation of microtubule dynamics in both mouse and human ...

Myocardial Fibrosis Quantified by Extracellular Volume Is Associated With Subsequent Hospitalization for Heart Failure, Death, or Both Across the Spectrum of Ejection Fraction and Heart Failure Stage

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2015
Background Myocardial fibrosis (MF) in noninfarcted myocardium may be an interstitial disease pathway that confers vulnerability to hospitalization for heart failure, death, or both across the spectrum of heart failure and ejection fraction ...

Sugar Functionalized Collagen Material for Local Modulation of Innate Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Modulation of the innate immune response at the implant site can significantly influence adaptive immunity. A mannose‐functionalized collagen patch, termed the Local Immunotuning Patch (LIP), has been designed to engage mannose receptors on antigen‐presenting cells while exhibiting antibacterial properties. LIP orchestrates complex immune pathways that
