PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Studies of bacteriophages induced from Streptococcus cremoris strain R1 : is R1 a double Lysogen? : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Early studies on Streptococcus cremoris strain R₁ suggested that it was polylysogenic. Later, it was reported that its induced lysates contained bacteriophages (phages) of two types which were believed to differ in their morphology, buoyant densities ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

The Dual Function in Virulence and Host Range Restriction of a Gene Isolated from the pPATHEhg Plasmid of Erwinia herbicola pv. gypsophilae

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2000
The host range of the gall-forming bacterium Erwinia herbicola pv. gypsophilae (Ehg) is restricted to gypsophila whereas Erwinia herbicola pv. betae (Ehb) attacks beet as well as gypsophila.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Rhizobium sp. BR816 Produces a Complex Mixture of Known and Novel Lipochitooligosaccharide Molecules

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2001
Rhizobial lipochitooligosaccharide (LCO) signal molecules induce various plant responses, leading to nodule development. We report here the LCO structures of the broad-host range strain Rhizobium sp. BR816.

Molecular bases and role of viruses in the human microbiome. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Viruses are dependent biological entities that interact with the genetic material of most cells on the planet, including the trillions within the human microbiome.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...
