Plant pathogens as biocontrol agents of Cirsium arvense : an overestimated approach? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cirsium arvense is one of the worst weeds in agriculture. As herbicides are not very effective and not accepted by organic farming and special habitats, possible biocontrol agents have been investigated since many decades.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Trematode Infection Prevalence Increases With Snail Richness: Observations From a 4‐Year Study of Snail–Trematode Interactions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Digenetic trematodes are valuable study organisms for exploring how biodiversity influences disease. In this study, we investigated the relationship between snail richness and trematode infection prevalence using data from a 4‐year study (2019–2022) of ...

A Multidimensional Framework for Understanding Microbial Mutualisms

open access: yesDiversity
Microbial mutualisms are still commonly described as obligate or facultative, but this dichotomy is insufficient to describe the complexity of host–microbe interactions.

Study of the host specificity of PB1-F2-associated virulence

open access: yesVirulence, 2021
Influenza A viruses cause important diseases in both human and animal. The PB1-F2 protein is a virulence factor expressed by some influenza viruses.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Zoogonids (trematoda) infecting Indo-West Pacific damselfishes (Pomacentridae), including the proposal of a new genus and two new species

open access: yesParasitology
As part of a broad survey of the trematodes of damselfishes (Pomacentridae) in the tropical Indo-West Pacific, zoogonids were collected from multiple localities in Australia, New Caledonia, and French Polynesia.

Zamilon, a novel virophage with Mimiviridae host specificity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Virophages, which are potentially important ecological regulators, have been discovered in association with members of the order Megavirales. Sputnik virophages target the Mimiviridae, Mavirus was identified with the Cafeteria roenbergensis virus, and ...

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...
