Innate Recognition by Host Fish of their Cleaning Symbiont

Ethology, 1995
AbstractNaive damselfish,Dascyllus albisella, were tested for their initial response to the Hawaiian cleaning wrasse,Labroides phthirophagus.Contrary to some current theory, some individuals, including both lab‐reared and wild‐caught fish, showed a full ‘pose’ response to visual stimuli from the cleaner without prior tactile stimulation, while others ...

The interactions between the host immunity and intestinal microorganisms in fish

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology
There is a huge quantity of microorganisms in the gut of fish, which exert pivotal roles in maintaining host intestinal and general health. The fish immunity can sense and shape the intestinal microbiota and maintain the intestinal homeostasis. In the meantime, the intestinal commensal microbes regulate the fish immunity, control the extravagant ...

The value of host and parasite identification for arripid fish

Marine and Freshwater Research, 2011
Accurate identification of fishes and their parasites is fundamental to the development, management and sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture worldwide. We examined three commercially and recreationally exploited Australian arripid species (Pisces: Arripidae), namely Australian herring (Arripis georgianus), eastern Australian salmon (A.

Migration of Diplostomum spathaceum (trematoda) in the fish intermediate host

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde, 1974
The migratory route of Diplostomum spathaceum to the eye lens of the fish host was determined by examining fishes killed at various times after infection in the laboratory by immersion in water containing cercariae. Migration occurred mostly in subcutaneous connective tissue and muscles of the trunk.
