A novel single-well geothermal system for hot dry rock geothermal energy exploitation

Energy, 2018
Abstract Existing hot dry rock geothermal projects are commonly confronted with some technical issues, such as corrosion and scaling, and water loss. To resolve these issues, the present work proposes a novel system for mining hot dry rock geothermal energy, in which a reservoir is combined with a heat pipe system.

Designing multi-well layout for enhanced geothermal system to better exploit hot dry rock geothermal energy

Renewable Energy, 2015
Abstract Heat extraction mode, e.g. well layout or arrangement of wells, of enhanced or engineered geothermal system (EGS) is crucial to its performance and directly affects its commercial viability. Assuming the subsurface target hot dry rock (HDR) has been well-fractured and the created heat reservoir can be treated as a homogeneous porous medium ...

Geothermal reservoirs and hot dry rock systems

1999
Most geothermal reservoirs and hot dry rock (HDR) systems are located in fractured low porosity geological formations. In such settings, fractures provide conduits for fluid flow through such rocks. Therefore fractures, either natural or those artificially created, are important for the successful operation of geothermal reservoirs and HDR systems.

Geochemical research in relation to hot dry rock geothermal systems

Geothermics, 1987
Abstract This paper summarises the discussion of the potential value of geochemistry in HDR technology. The applications of geochemistry are discussed in terms of the nature and origins of fluids in granitic systems and the mineralogy of the granite. The use of chemical species as reservoir diagnostic tools is also discussed.

COMPLETION OF HOT DRY ROCK GEOTHERMAL WELL SYSTEMS

Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1979
Abstract In the hot dry rock (HDR) concept of extracting geothermal energy, as developed by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL), a manmade geothermal reservoir is created by drilling a deep hole into relatively impermeable hot rocks, creating a large surface area for heat transfer by hydraulic fracturing ...

Temperature-dependent scale precipitation in the Hijiori Hot Dry Rock system, Japan

Geothermics, 2008
Mineral scales were formed in wells and surface installations during a 2-year circulation test performed at the Hijiori Hot Dry Rock (HDR) site, Yamagata, Japan. Anhydrite deposited in the deeper parts of the production wells, while silica and calcium carbonate precipitated at the surface, downstream of the wellhead, in amounts that depended on the ...

Modeling heat extraction from hot dry rock in a multi-well system

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2009
A mathematical model is developed for describing the heat energy extracted from a hot dry rock in a multi-well system. The solutions for the water temperature, accounting for a geothermal gradient in a geothermal reservoir, are given in the Laplace domain and computed by numerical inversion, the modified Crump method.
