Investigating the round air jet dynamics at low Reynolds numbers

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The laminar-turbulent transition in a round jet flowing from a cylindrical channel with the diameter of 3.2 mm was studied experimentally. In experiments, the range of Reynolds numbers determined by the mean-flow velocity was Re = Ud/v = 700-12000.

Influences of Turbulence Characteristic on the Dispersion Behavior of Droplets in the Spray Flame

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2008
The authors investigated the effect of the turbulence of an air current on droplet dispersion in a spray flame. Wire meshes of different mesh sizes were inserted behind a two-fluid type nozzle each time to vary the air current turbulence characteristics,

Concurrent Temperature and Light Intensity Fluctuations Promote Stomatal Opening and Non‐Steady State Photosynthesis

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In nature, fluctuations in light intensity (FL) are tightly coupled to rapid changes in leaf temperature (Tleaf), yet the short‐term physiological effects of these concurrent drivers remain largely unresolved. Here, we combined rapid infrared induced Tleaf fluctuations with controlled step changes in light intensity for leaf gas exchange ...

Laminar Turbulent Transition in a Boundary Layer Subjected to Weak Free Stream Turbulence

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2008
For revealing the transition process in a flat plate boundary layer subjected to a weak free stream turbulence, flow visualization and hot-wire measurements were performed. A weak free stream turbulence was generated by a turbulence grid mounted upstream

Method for making a hot wire anemometer and product thereof [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
A hot wire anemometer probe is described that includes a ceramic body supporting two conductive rods parallel to each other. The body has a narrow edge surface from which the rods protrude.

Alternative approaches to dryland reclamation enhance vegetation cover and soil stability at a former uranium mine

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Conventional reclamation methods to recover dryland ecosystems after mineral extraction often have low success. Alternative reclamation techniques may help overcome the many challenges to establishing persistent native vegetation and stable soils.

Terrestrial Analogs to Titan for Geophysical Research

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Saturn's moon Titan exhibits remarkable parallels to the Earth in many geophysical and geological processes not found elsewhere in the solar system at the present day. These include a nitrogen atmosphere with a condensible gas—methane—replacing the Earth's water, leading to an active meteorology with rainfall and surface manifestations ...

Persistent Evapotranspiration in a Shallow Boreal Shield Peatland Despite Summer Drought: Implications for Ecohydrological Resilience

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 5, May 2026.
We examine energy balance and evapotranspiration dynamics in a shallow peatland as an analogue for projected climate change impacts in deeper peatlands. Across nine growing seasons, we document similar total evapotranspiration between dry and wet years, leading to net moisture deficit in some dry years.

Power Losses in Energy Generation: Mechanisms, Mitigation Strategies, and Pathways to a Sustainable Future

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
This article provides a comprehensive review of loss mechanisms in the generation stage of energy systems, covering fossil, nuclear, and renewable technologies. It examines their environmental and operational implications and shows how overlooking generation losses distorts efficiency assessments.

Experimental Analysis of the Three Dimensional Flow in a Wells Turbine Rotor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2023
An experimental investigation of the local flow field in a Wells turbine has been conducted, in order to produce a detailed analysis of the aerodynamic characteristics of the rotor and support the search for optimized solutions.
