Simulating the hot dip galvanizing process of high mast illumination poles. Part II: Effects of geometrical properties and galvanizing practices

Journal of constructional steel research, 2019
Cracks that develop during galvanization of High Mast Illumination Poles (HMIPs), often at the pole-to-base plate connection, are an important concern to US fabricators and highway officials. If they are not detected during fabrication and are allowed to

Minispangling of Hot Dip Galvanized Steel

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The surface appearance of hot dip galvanized steels can be changed by altering the nucleation and growth of zinc spangles during solidification. This paper describes the spangle nucleation mechanisms resulting from two minispangling techniques: steam impingement and zinc dust impingement.

Magnetic actuator design for strip stabilizers in hot dip galvanizing lines

Annual Meeting of the IEEE Industry Applications Society, 2018
Electromagnetic strip stabilizers are viable tools for controlling the shape of steel strips in hot dip galvanizing lines. Such stabilizers typically consist of multiple electromagnets located at the top and the bottom side of the strip.

Segregation in hot-dipped galvanized steel

Surface and Interface Analysis, 2000
A commercially prepared, hot-dip galvanized, low-carbon steel sheet sample has been studied by means of XPS, SEM, and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The sample was processed in a molten Zn bath containing Al and other additives at low concentrations. Extensive Al segregation to the top of the galvanized layer was observed by XPS.

Effect of Hot Rolled Substrate of Hydrogen Reduction on Interfacial Reaction Layer of Hot-dip Galvanizing

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2018
The effect of morphology of substrate on intermetallic layer is studied in this work by combining the hydrogen reduction descaling of hot rolled steel and galvanizing process. The results show that the morphology of iron reduced at different temperatures

HOT‐DIP GALVANIZING LARGE STRUCTURES

Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, 1964
THE BICC Group are now erecting in Sussex the first 400‐kV quad conductor line in Britain. This contract is for the CEGB and a helicopter is being used to transport steelwork, concrete and other materials to some of the more remote tower sites.

Hot‐dip galvanized composite dowel strips

Steel Construction, 2016
AbstractThis paper presents additional potential for the future economic development of composite dowel strips by using the durable and long‐lasting corrosion protection of hot‐dip galvanization. Based on the completed FOSTA research project P835 [5] on the use of hot‐dip galvanizing for steel and composite bridge construction, the range of ...

Painting over Hot Dip Galvanized Steel

SSPC 2007, 2007
Abstract Duplex systems, also known as painting over hot dip galvanized steel, are extremely effective corrosion protection systems. However, careful surface preparation techniques need to be used to alleviate potential coating failures.

Adaptive control of hot-dip galvanizing

Automatica, 1995
Abstract In a hot-dip galvanizing process, the mass of zinc deposited and its distribution are controlled by the air pressure and effective distance from the air knife nozzle to the steel strip surface. In this paper, we investigate how modern techniques of modeling, estimation and control can be used to design an advanced air knife controller that ...
