Influence of Specific Ball‐Milling Energy on Mechanical and Corrosion Properties of Zn–0.2 Graphene Nanoplatelet Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the effect of specific ball‐milling energy (SBME) on the mechanical and corrosion properties of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) Zn matrix composites is presented. GNPs are uniformly dispersed in the Zn powder mixtures at the optimal SBME of 32.82 kJ g−1.

Predicted thermal response of a cryogenic fuel tank exposed to simulated aerodynamic heating profiles with different cryogens and fill levels [PDF]

open access: yes
A two dimensional finite difference thermal model was developed to predict the effects of heating profile, fill level, and cryogen type prior to experimental testing the Generic Research Cryogenic Tank (GRCT).

Dimensionless Investigations on Energy Conversion and Analysis of Interlayer Time in Laser‐Based Powder Bed Fusion of Polymers for Polyamide 12 with Nanoadditives and Polypropylene

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the energy conversion in powder bed fusion of polymers using laser beam for polyamide 12 and polypropylene powders. It combines material and process data, using dimensionless parameters and numerical models, to enable the prediction of suitable printing parameters.

A brief review of recent advances on the Mott transition: unconventional transport, spectral weight transfers, and critical behaviour

open access: yes, 2004
Strongly correlated metals close to the Mott transition display unusual transport regimes, together with large spectral weight transfers in optics and photoemission. We briefly review the theoretical understanding of these effects, based on the dynamical

Nanoparticle‐Coated X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 Powder for Additive Manufacturing—Part II: Processability by Powder Bed Fusion of Metals Using a Laser Beam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this manuscript, the processability of X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 powder coated with silicon carbide, silicon, and silicon nitride nanoparticles is investigated. The amount of nanoparticles varies from 0.25 to 1 vol%. By coating the powder feedstock material with nanoparticles, an enlargement of the process window and an increase in the build rate are achieved.

Nanoparticle‐Coated X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 Powder for Additive Manufacturing – Part I: Surface, Flowability, and Optical Properties of SiC, Si, and Si3N4 Coated Metal Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, silicon‐based nanoparticle coatings on X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 metal powder are presented. The coating process scale, process parameters, nanoparticle size (65–200 nm) as well as the coating amount are discussed regarding powder properties. The surface roughness affects the flowability, while reflectance depends on the coating material and surface ...

Cryogenic-coolant He4-superconductor dynamic and static interactions [PDF]

open access: yes
A composite superconducting material (NbTi-Cu) was evaluated with emphasis on post quench solid cooling interaction regimes. The quasi-steady runs confirm the existence of a thermodynamic limiting thickness for insulating coatings.

Influence of a Hydrogen Addition to the Inert Gas and Subsequent Heat Treatments on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Magnesium WE43 Fabricated by PBF‐LB/M

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates optimal processing conditions for the laser‐based powder bed fusion of WE43. To limit the interaction with remaining oxygen, a 3 vol% hydrogen admixture to the inert gas is investigated. Furthermore, heat treatments are investigated in the range of 250–350 °C for 48 h.
