Analysis of center burst during hot forging
Practical Failure Analysis, 2002Abstract Carbon steel axle forgings were rejected due to internal cracks observed during final machining. To determine the cause of the cracks, the preforms of the forging were analyzed in detail at each stage of the forging. The analysis revealed a large central burst in the intermediate stage of the forging preform, which subsequently ...

Choosing optimal forging conditions in isothermal and hot-die forging
Journal of Applied Metalworking, 1985A process-model was developed based on the slab-method to calculate stress distributions and strains. The heat transfer problem was analyzed using FEM-methods and simplified by using non-dimensional analysis. The process-model could then be expanded with heat transfer calculations between billet and die.

Grain evolution during hot forging
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013A review on grain evolution during hot forging is presented in this paper. The discussion focus is on the experimental law, the microscopic mechanism, the physical model and the evolution equations of grain refinement and growth. This is because the grain evolution is the most important microstructure evolution effecting on the part mechanical ...

Use of lubricants 2, 3, 4 and 5 (Table 1) in transverse hot densification does not prevent buildup formation on the tool. By contrast, the specially developed molybdenum disulfide and graphite base lubricant 1 [13] exhibits excellent friction- and wear-reducing characteristics.

Forging of Ingots Without Hot Tops
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2013Geometric parameters of the shrinkage cavities in ingots without hot tops from the NKMZ and “Izhorskie zavodi” plants varying in mass from 1.6–180 tons with different ingot height to average diameter ratio have been studied. The influence of geometric parameters, solidification conditions, and steel chemical composition on the relative depth of the ...
