Mechanisms of hot-isostatic pressing [PDF]
Abstract The hot-isostatic pressing of lead, tin and PMMA has been studied, using a rig which enables continuous measurement of density during a test. For the range of experimental conditions used, the dominant mechanisms of densification are plasticity and creep. We found large discrepancies between the data and previous models for these mechanisms.

Hot deformation behavior of 60NiTi shape-memory alloy fabricated by hot isostatic pressing
The 60NiTi (Ni60wt%–Ti40wt%) intermetallic is a hard-to-process material. Understanding of hot deformation behavior is crucial for the hot working of 60NiTi. This work studied hot deformation behavior and corresponding microstructure of the hot isostatic

Hot Isostatic Pressing: Developments in Theory [PDF]
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the developments in theory of hot isostatic pressing (HIP). HIP is rapidly attaining the position of the leading hot consolidation process for metal and, especially, ceramic powders. In addition, healing of casting defects and diffusion bonding have become important applications of the HIP process. At the high

Hot Isostatic Pressing of Alumina
Effects of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) conditions on the densification were studied for alumina powder compacts having various particle characteristics. HIP conditions examined are temperature, pressure and time. Powder characteristics were represented by particle size.

This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Application of Hot Isostatic Pressing in Nickel-Based Single Crystal Superalloys
Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) technology can effectively reduce microstructure defects such as micropores, which are formed during solidification and hominization heat treatment, and thus further improve the high temperature performance of nickel-based SX

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated
