Modernization of the method of rolling of hot-rolled tubes

2015
A new method of hot-rolled pipes rolling on the automatic mill “tandem” is suggested. It consists of two rolling stands. This method allows one to achieve the rough pipe preovalisation before reaching the automatic mill. The rough pipe preovalisation provides even groove filling and the decrease of pipe wall thickness variation.

Optimal cooling of rolls in hot rolling

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2002
Abstract A laboratory experimental device was developed to allow full-scale measurements on roll cooling to be carried out. The full-scale tests use a complete configuration of rows of nozzles as in the plant conditions or prepared by a designer. The laboratory approach allows the design to be optimised or to compare old and new solutions.

Damage in hot rolling work rolls

Wear, 1999
Samples from a couple of work rolls employed in a hot rolling steel strip mill were examined by scanning electron microscopy in order to study their surface, as well as the wear mechanisms responsible for their damage. It was found that a series of cracks develop within the rolls at the beginning of their operational cycle, these cracks follow the ...

Analysis of banded hot rolling rolls

Wear, 1993
Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate the surface wear phenomenon known as banding which is one of the major wear problems occurring on hot rolling rolls, and a major cause of roll surface deterioration and the subsequent need for roll regrinding.

Roll-to-roll hot embossing of microstructures

Microsystem Technologies, 2010
In this paper we present a new roll-to-roll embossing process allowing the replication of micro patterns with feature sizes down to 0.5 µm. The embossing process is suitable for the continuous output of micro patterned structures and is not accompanied by waste produced during the initial hot embossing phase.

Real-time simulation of temperature in hot rolling rolls

Journal of Computational Science, 2014
Abstract Model-based process control is widely used in metal working. Often, simplified real-time capable numerical models replace or support measurement. In this work, we investigate the simulation of temperature in hot rolling rolls based on a 3-D model of a roll which is fast enough to act as soft sensor during operation.

(A) Hot and cold rolling

International Metals Reviews, 1977
A complete review of developments in rolling during the last decade would have to cover thousands of published papers and also much unpublished work; comprehensive coverage would thus become impossible within the confines of a short review. In the earlier review of this series, Ford concentrated on the theory of flat rolling. Books

Modernization of Hot-Rolled Tubes Rolling Method

Wear of hot rolling mill rolls: an overview

Wear, 1994
Abstract Rolling is today one of the most important industrial processes because a greater volume of material is worked by rolling than by any other technique. Roll wear is a multiplex process where mechanical and thermal fatigue combines with impact, abrasion, adhesion and corrosion, which all depend on system interactions rather than material ...

Hot Forging and Rolling

1969
Forging is made up of a diverse group of hot and cold shaping processes and produces parts varying in weight from several tons to a few ounces. In this chapter hot forging has been grouped with hot and cold rolling, as both can be considered primary forming operations which are largely confined to the forge or steelworks.
