Continuous Hot Strip Rolling

1969
Hot continuous wide strip1 rolling is recognised as one of the most important twentieth-century innovations in the steel industry. Its introduction greatly improved the quality of steel sheets and substantially reduced costs.

Hot Forging and Rolling

1969
Forging is made up of a diverse group of hot and cold shaping processes and produces parts varying in weight from several tons to a few ounces. In this chapter hot forging has been grouped with hot and cold rolling, as both can be considered primary forming operations which are largely confined to the forge or steelworks.

Modelling heat transfer in hot rolling work rolls

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1999
Abstract Work rolls in a hot rolling mill are subjected to successive heating and cooling cycles, with the net result of a positive heat influx. This sort of heating might cause damage, as well as shape defects in the rolled strips, so it is therefore necessary to know how the temperature of the rolls increases.

Wear of hot rolling mill rolls: an overview

Wear, 1994
Abstract Rolling is today one of the most important industrial processes because a greater volume of material is worked by rolling than by any other technique. Roll wear is a multiplex process where mechanical and thermal fatigue combines with impact, abrasion, adhesion and corrosion, which all depend on system interactions rather than material ...

Rolling Force in Hot Rolling of Large Rings

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
For hot rolling of large rings, determination of rolling force plays an important role in designing, choosing and optimizing of processing plan and rolling mill. The average shape parameter of the deformation zone of ring rolling is presented, and a reliable coupled thermo-mechanical three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model for the process is ...

Investigations into Roll Thermal Fatigue in Hot Rolling

International Journal of Material Forming, 2008
In the current paper, a study into the mechanism of roll thermal fatigue crack propagation during hot rolling of long products is presented. A range of 2D implicit FEM models taking into account the complex thermal and mechanical interactions during rolling and cyclic cooling have been developed and used to predict how the stress state inside the roll ...

Roll pass evaluation for hot shape rolling processes

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1991
Abstract Since the complex shaped caliber rolling usually takes place in hot operation, three dimensional mechanical behavior coupled with the heat transfer in and around the billet must be taken into account for accurate evaluation of the roll pass system.

Transit Damage and Hot Rolled Steel

Practical Failure Analysis, 2002
The investigation of alleged corrosion damage to hot rolled steel during transit requires metallurgical, chemical, and corrosion knowledge. Familiarity with non-destructive techniques and sampling procedures are of assistance. A complete record of shipment history is also required, including the purchasing specifications and observations and ...

Alloyed steel intended for hot rolling mill rolls

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1993
The complex alloyed high carbon 170Kh4M2F5 type steel in the original condition with an inadequately annealed matrix (650 HV) has a martensitic-troostite base structure and excess M3C, M23C6, M7C3, and MC type carbides. Austenite is formed over the 748 to 885°C range.
