A hot-wire measurement technique for complex turbulent flows
1st National Fluid Dynamics Conference, 1988A hot-wire technique is described which can be used to measure all three components of the local mean velocity vector and all six components of the Reynolds stress tensor in a low-intensity turbulent flow which is arbitrarily skewed in pitch and yaw by as much as 30 degrees.

A technique for cleaning hot-wires used in anemometry
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1953When a hot-wire is exposed to an air-stream near an industrial area, it collects a deposit consisting of particles of soot and tar. The deposit, by changing the heat-loss from the wire, can decrease the sensitivity by as much as 20%. Even in cleaned air, the useful life of a hot-wire may be no more than 2 hours.
