Cloud spot markets offer virtual machines (VMs) for a dynamic price that is much lower than the fixed price of on-demand VMs. In exchange, spot VMs expose applications to multiple forms of risk, including price risk, or the risk that a VM's price will increase relative to others. Since spot prices vary continuously across hundreds of different types of

Hotspot melting generates both hotspot volcanism and a hotspot swell?
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1995Two prominent features mark the passage of oceanic lithosphere over a hotspot. The first is the initiation of oceanic volcanism leading to a chain of islands or seamounts. The second is the generation of a ∼1‐km‐high, ∼1000‐km‐wide bathymetric swell around the volcanic island chain. Here we show that recent estimates for the volume of hotspot volcanism

Hotspots of biodiversity-areas particularly rich in species, rare species, threatened species, or some combination of these attributes-are increasingly being delineated to help set priorities for conservation. Only recently have we begun to test key assumptions that determine how useful a hotspot approach can be for conservation planning.

Drawing from a user-centered design process and guidelines derived from the literature, we developed a paradigm based on space discretization for declaratively authoring mid-air gestures and implemented it in Hotspotizer, an end-to-end toolkit for mapping custom gestures to keyboard commands.
