Error-sensitivity analysis of hourglass worm gearing with spherical meshing elements

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2013
Abstract This paper aims to study the influence of tooth errors and shaft misalignments on the tooth contact in hourglass worm gearing with spherical meshing elements. The geometries of the worm and worm-gear tooth surfaces are described, and the distribution characteristic of contact lines is explored.

A Study on Hourglass Worm Gearing with Constant Slide-Roll Ratio

Journal of Mechanical Design, 1979
A new type of hourglass worm gearing is developed by the authors’ own theories [1], [2]. This hourlgass worm gearing has the good points of Hindley’s one and also covers the weak points of it. The worm is cut by a tool with straight-lined cutting edge which is fixed to the basic member [1].

A Designing and Generating Method for Grinding Relief Surfaces of a Dual-Cone Double-Enveloping Hourglass Worm Gear Hob

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2018
Land widths and relief angles of a dual-cone double-enveloping hourglass worm gear hob are important factors that influence the life and the hobbing performance of the hob. Both of them are obtained by generating relief surfaces of the hob.

Five-Axis Flank Milling Method of Plane Double Enveloping Hourglass Worm

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A high-precision and efficient machining method of plane double enveloping hourglass worm is proposed. The worm tooth surface is first created and analyzed based on meshing theory. The analysis reveals that the worm tooth surface is a developable ruled surface. This provides the ability of precise flank milling of the worm tooth surface.

Determination of the Most Dangerous Meshing Point for Modified-Hourglass Worm Drives

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2013
A type of modified-hourglass worm gear drive, frequently called type-II worm gearing for short, has various favorable meshing features. Its sole shortcoming is the undercutting of the worm wheel. By adopting a slight modification, this problem can be overcome due to the removal of a part of one subconjugate area containing the curvature interference ...

A Novel Error Detection and Compensation Method of Hourglass Worm Gear Hob

Volume 3: Design, Materials and Manufacturing, Parts A, B, and C, 2012
The double enveloping hourglass worm gear pair is a type of transmission, which has many traits, such as more teeth in mesh for transmission, higher contact quality, better lubrication condition and so on. Therefore, it has higher efficiency of transmission, stronger bearing capacity and longer work life.
