Because the mite‐allergen content in homes is highly variable even in the same geographic area, we tried to determine which variables influence mite infestation. We evaluated mite‐allergen content in bedding relative to housing conditions and living habits. This cross‐sectional study included 108 homes.

House Dust Mite and Dust Control
Clinical Reviews in Allergy, 1988The available methods for controling dust mites in houses consist of washing bedding regularly, covering mattresses, and, when possible, removing carpets. This leaves the problem of fitted carpets in living rooms, as welt as the problem of sofa and chair upholsteries.

Abstract Extracts of a culture of the acarine mite Dermatophagoides culinœ, which grows readily on dog meal, gave positive prick-test reactions in asthmatic subjects, which correlated well with a history of house-dust allergy and with asthmatic reactions to inhalation tests.

SummaryIn the Caspian Sea region of Iran asthma seems closely related to house dust allergy. Since a high proportion of house dust sensitive patients appear to be sensitive to house dust mites, an investigation was carried out to determine the occurrence, distribution and abundance of these species in Iranian house dust in order to assess their role ...

SummaryA survey of bedding in Bristol revealed reducing mite concentrations on children's toys, mattresses, overblankets and pillows.Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus was the commonest mite found. A vacuuming schedule was devised for removing mites so that a double blind trial could be carried out.

House‐dust mites and mattresses
Allergy, 2002Background: Despite considerable efforts to develop anti dust mite strategies, surprisingly few studies have evaluated the allergen content in different types of mattresses in everyday use. This study investigated the presence of mite feces (an indicator of mite allergens) in foam and spring mattresses. Methods: The homes of 152 schoolchildren in ...

House dust mite hyposensitization
British Journal of Diseases of the Chest, 1978A double-blind controlled trial of house dust mite hyposensitization was carried out in 14 patients with asthma, who were hypersensitive on skin testing to the house dust mite alone. Measurements were made, using a Wright's peak flowmeter, during the 15-month trial period. Precautions were taken in the home to reduce the mite population.

The effects of altitude on house dust mites (one of the allergenic components of house dust) and the synthesis of anti-acari IgE antibodies were studied. Flotation extraction, counting, and identification of mites were performed each season for 1 yr on 218 mattress-dust samples taken from the Briancon region in the Alps, 900 to 3170 meters in altitude.
