The Brittle Ring Test: A Simple and Reliable Method for Evaluating the Fracture Strength of Technical Ceramics—Theoretical and Experimental Investigations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ceramic Engineering &Science, Volume 8, Issue 2, March 2026.
The study reviews existing formulas for the Brittle Ring test and introduces an adapted equation that most accurately determines the fracture strength of ceramic rings. Valid strength values can be obtained with minimal sample preparation when suitable geometric ratios are maintained, demonstrating the method's efficiency for technical ceramics ...

Evaluating Aversion to Eye‐Like Stimuli as a Foraging Deterrent in Urban European Herring Gulls

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We tested whether eye‐like and high contrast patterns on takeaway food boxes deterred urban herring gulls from approaching and pecking at food boxes. Gulls were slower to approach and less likely to peck at boxes with eyes, and the deterrent effect persisted in the short‐term for some gulls. When used alongside other deterrents, eye‐like stimuli may be

Butterfly Diversity in a Sacred Kaya Forest in Southern Kenya

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
In this study we analysed the butterfly communities in a tropical coastal forest patch and the surrounding anthropogenic ecosystems. Although both abundance and species richness were lowest inside the natural forest, vulnerable forest specialists were restricted to the forest interior and absent from all anthropogenic landscapes.

Genotype‐Driven Resolution of Panagglutination Over a Decade of Korean Rare Blood Program Case Archives

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 6, March 2026.
Molecular genotyping resolved complex panagglutination cases that were undetectable by standard serologic tests. Centralized rare blood programs improve transfusion safety through precise donor matching and enhanced antibody identification. ABSTRACT Background As populations age and chronic disease burden rises, transfusion demand grows in both volume ...

Pregnancy outcomes and management in lung and heart transplant recipients: A systematic review

open access: yesJHLT Open
Immunosuppression advances have enabled organ transplant recipients to consider parenthood, but pregnancy poses risks to maternal and fetal health. This systematic review examines pregnancy outcomes and immunosuppression management in cardiothoracic ...

Collection, Collation, and Comparison of Near‐Earth In Situ CME Boundaries

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) drive space weather throughout the heliosphere so knowledge of their internal properties is key to understanding and eventually forecasting their effects. Typically observations are limited to single‐spacecraft encounters sampling one path that may or may not be representative of the overall structure.

Mechanism of Ammonia‐Induced Brain Damage in Chinese Striped‐Necked Turtle (Mauremys sinensis)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, Volume 21, Issue 2, Page 421-434, March 2026.
High levels of ammonia disrupt the integrity of the brain barrier in Mauremys sinensis, leading to tissue edema. This, in turn, triggers a series of cascade reactions, including disturbances in neurotransmitter levels, particularly glutamate, which might further exacerbate the neurotoxic effects.

Telomerase RNA structural heterogeneity in living human cells detected by DMS-MaPseq

open access: yesNature Communications
Biogenesis of human telomerase requires its RNA subunit (hTR) to fold into a multi-domain architecture that includes the template-pseudoknot (t/PK) and the three-way junction (CR4/5).
