Climatology and Trends in Spatial Scales of Extreme Precipitation Over Land in the Contiguous US
Abstract Extreme precipitation (EP) poses a severe risk under a changing climate. Here we use daily gridded precipitation data (1980–2024) and a connected‐component labeling algorithm to characterize the climatology and regional trends of daily EP spatial scale over land in the contiguous United States (US).

Real-time demonstration hardware for enhanced DPCM video compression algorithm [PDF]
The lack of available wideband digital links as well as the complexity of implementation of bandwidth efficient digital video CODECs (encoder/decoder) has worked to keep the cost of digital television transmission too high to compete with analog methods.

Can Large‐Scale Clustering of Tropical Precipitation Be Used to Constrain Climate Sensitivity?
Abstract The spatial organization of deep convection in tropical regions is posited to play an important role in determining characteristics of the tropical climate such as the humidity distribution and cloudiness and may therefore be an important control on climate feedbacks. This study analyzes one aspect of convective organization, the clustering of

Future Changes in the Atmospheric Water Cycle Over the Tibetan Plateau
Abstract The Tibetan Plateau (TP) atmospheric water cycle (TPAWC), involving moisture sources, transport, and sinks with the TP precipitation and evaporation, faces unclear changes under global warming. This study projects TPAWC changes under two Shared Socio‐economic Pathways scenarios (SSP245 and SSP585) using Lagrangian moisture tracking.

An EMG Keyboard for Forearm Amputees
A high-efficiency, easy-to-use input device is not only important for data entry but also for human-computer interaction. To date, there has been little research on input devices with many degrees of freedom (DOF) that can be used by the handicapped ...

Joint Source-Channel Coding Using Variable-Length Error-Correcting Codes
This paper explores the performance of both source coding and error-correction in a single coding step. Such joint source-channel coding is done here using codewords of varying lengths that have particular distance properties with each other, which ...

Tradeoff Between Speed and Memory Requirements for Decoding of Prefix-Free Codes
For the decoding of prefix-free codes such as Huffman code, we present a tradeoff between the decoding speed and memory requirements that results in an adapted decoding algorithm.

Image Watermarking based on Huffman Coding and Laplace Sharpening
In this paper, an algorithm through which we can embed more data than the regular methods under spatial domain is introduced. We compressed the secret data using Huffman coding and then this compressed data is embedded using laplacian sharpening method ...

Efficient pattern matching in compressed text via bit-parallel word-based encoding
This paper introduces an optimized algorithm designed to accelerate compressed word matching using advanced bit-parallelism techniques, resulting in a high-performance solution. The proposed algorithm (BIT_COMP) uses the concept of word-based tagged code
