Hydrodynamic optimization of ship hull forms
Applied Ocean Research, 2001Abstract An extremely simple CFD tool is used to compare the calm-water drags of a series of hull forms and to define ‘optimized’ monohull ships for which the total (friction+wave) calm-water drag is minimized. The friction drag is estimated using the classical ITTC formula. The wave drag is predicted using the zeroth-order slender-ship approximation.

Hull-form optimization in calm and rough water
Computer-Aided Design, 2010The paper presents a formal methodology for the hull form optimization in calm and rough water using wash waves and selected dynamic responses, respectively. Parametric hull form modeling is used to generate the variant hull forms with some of the form parameters modified, which are evaluated in the optimization scheme based on evolutionary strategies.
