Adsorption of Mercury in Aqueous Solutions by Functionalized Cellulose Extracted from Soybean Hulls

open access: yesChemPlusChem, EarlyView.
Reuse of agricultural waste as a source of adsorbent cellulose‐based materials is a low‐cost and sustainable approach to remove potentially toxic elements (PTEs) from aqueous solutions. This approach is successfully applied in the removal of mercury from aquaculture water, an important source of food where the absence of PTEs is a fundamental requisite

Hydrodynamics of Semi-Submersible Vehicle Hulls with Variable Height-Width Ratio in Deep and Shallow Water [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Semi-submersible vehicles keep most of their hulls underwater while maintaining a small platform above the water surface. These craft can find use for both naval operations and civil transportation due to special properties, including the low above-water hull profile, reduced wave drag in some speed regimes, and potentially better seaworthiness ...

A Roadmap for Biomass‐Driven Development of Sustainable Phase Change Materials

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review advances the scientific understanding of sustainability and circularity in phase change material (PCM) fabrication by providing a strategic framework for developing composites from abundant, renewable resources. By screening biomass‐derived PCMs, carbons, and biopolymers, a roadmap is outlined for the development of ...

Shifting baselines of coral‐reef species composition from the Late Pleistocene to the present in the Florida Keys

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
We produced the first reconstruction of the coral species composition of MIS5d–a reefs in the Florida Keys and compared it with existing regional records from MIS5e, the Holocene, the recent past (1996) and the present (2022) to evaluate how Florida's reefs changed throughout the late Quaternary.

A novel construction approach for the pore structure model principally focuses on the controllable roundness of rock particles

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Particle rounding effects comparison of different methods: (a), (b), and (c) are the rounding results using the B‐spline curve method with different R; (d), (e), and (f) are the results of vertex rounding substitution method with different rounding radii.

Effects of soaking and thermal treatment on nutritional quality of three varieties of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) from Madagascar

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 4, Issue 4, December 2022., 2022
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of soaking and thermal treatment on proteins, anthocyanins, α‐galactosides (stachyose, raffinose), tannins and inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), under different conditions, of three Phaseolus vulgaris L. varieties from Madagascar; and evaluate correlation with surface/volume ratio.
