Extreme-value statistics from Lagrangian convex hull analysis for homogeneous turbulent Boussinesq convection and MHD convection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the utility of the convex hull of many Lagrangian tracers to analyze transport properties of turbulent flows with different anisotropy. In direct numerical simulations of statistically homogeneous and stationary Navier-Stokes turbulence ...

Convex Hull Formation for Programmable Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We envision programmable matter as a system of nano-scale agents (called particles) with very limited computational capabilities that move and compute collectively to achieve a desired goal.

Hull Form Designs For Icebreaking Tankers

open access: yesSNAME 7th International Conference and Exhibition on Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice, 2006
This paper discusses four designs for icebreaking tankers that have been developed by Samsung Heavy Industries and tested at NRC’s Institute for Ocean Technology (IOT). Three of the designs developed were twin-screw ships (with twin rudders). The first two bow shapes were similar to existing Canadian icebreakers.

A Numerical Study of Spray Strips Analysis on Fridsma Hull Form

open access: yesFluids, 2021
Spray strips are deflectors added to the hull to reduce the Wetted Surface Area (WSA). The reduced WSA will decrease the total ship drag caused by the deflection of the spray strip installation.

Traditional Catamaran Hull Form Configurations that Reduce Total Resistance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2017
Catamaran resistance is very complex compared to monohull resistance, so it is particularly worthy of research. The below-water-level hull form influences the fluid flow characteristics around the ship, which either increases or decreases the total ...

Optimizing the Seakeeping Performance of Ship Hull Forms Using Genetic Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesTransNav, 2014
Hull form optimization from a hydrodynamic performance point of view is an important aspect of ship design. This study presents a computational method to estimate the ship seakeeping in regular head wave. In the optimization process the Genetic Algorithm

Optimization of a hull form for decrease ship resistance to movement [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерные исследования и моделирование, 2017
Optimization of hull lines for the minimum resistance to movement is a problem of current interest in ship hydrodynamics. In practice, lines design is still to some extent an art.

A Distributed Algorithm for Gathering Many Fat Mobile Robots in the Plane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this work we consider the problem of gathering autonomous robots in the plane. In particular, we consider non-transparent unit-disc robots (i.e., fat) in an asynchronous setting. Vision is the only mean of coordination.

Optimization strategy for planing hull design

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2022
The planing hull optimization has always been a difficult problem due to the trim changes caused by lift force and complex hydrodynamic interactions at high speeds.

Sequential Design-Space Reduction and Its Application to Hull-Form Optimization

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Hull-form optimization is a complex engineering problem. Owing to the several numerical simulations and complex design-performance spaces, hull-form optimization is considered an inefficient process, which makes determining the global optimum difficult ...
