A combined approach based on Subdivision Surface and Free Form Deformation for smart ship hull form design and variation

Ships and Offshore Structures, 2018
ABSTRACTTechniques for shape representation and further modification of a hull surface definitely play a key role in both the design of new buildings and in the optimisation of the existing ones. The simplification of the methods is the goal to reach in order to create useful tools for real applications.

Parametric Hull Form Variation-based Genetic Algorithm for Reduced Ship Resistance

2020 International Conference on Advanced Mechatronic Systems (ICAMechS), 2020
Our study presents a tool to improve a ship hull form parameter based on genetic optimization algorithms from an existing ship or a parent ship. In this research, a mathematical model of an objective function is obtained using the Holtrop prediction method’s viscous resistance and wave resistance.

Geometrical Variation and Distortion of Ship Hull Forms

Marine Technology and SNAME News, 2003
Because of the risk involved with starting the hull form design from scratch, the designer most frequently initiates the hull form design process with a parent form that has satisfactory hydrodynamic performance. Hence, linear and nonlinear variation and distortion techniques have found wide applications in the hull form design studies.

A curve based hull form variation with geometric constraints of area and centroid

Ocean Engineering, 2017
Abstract Modifying an existing geometric shape to obtain another is a common process in automobile, aircraft, and shipbuilding design. In particular, shipyard design departments rely on hull form variation, which involves designing a new ship from a well-made existing ship, as an efficient and effective process.

Effect of Hull–Form Variation on the Stratified Near Wake of a Self–Propelled Body

2018 OCEANS - MTS/IEEE Kobe Techno-Oceans (OTO), 2018
This study investigates the influence of hull–form variation on a self–propelled body in a linearly–stratified environment typical of the ocean. The Reynolds number is $Re_{L}=3.1\times 10^{8}$ , based on the freestream velocity and body length. The unsteady Reynolds–Averaged Navier Stokes equations are solved numerically, incorporating an Actuator ...

THE EFFECTS OF HULL FORM VARIATIONS ON THE ROLL DAMPING OF WARSHIPS

Naval Engineers Journal, 1987
ABSTRACTThe results of a study to identify warship hull form characteristics which maximize roll damping are described. The two main hull form characteristics which influence the roll damping of warships at the cruise speed are the separation of the appendages from the centre of gravity, and the form of the bilge.

Improvement of hull form design using propeller load variation tests

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1987
This study presents the analysis of hull-propeller interaction in terms of the inviscid and viscous components of the thrust deduction and wake. The inviscid components are calculated by the method of singularities. The calculation of the inviscid thrust deduction needs the hull wake at the propeller plane as well as the wavemaking resistance of hull ...

Comparative Study of Resistance Performance with Refrigerated Ice And Synthetic Ice According To Variation Of Hull Form

International conference on Ship & Offshore Technology Ice Class Ships 09, 2009
The present paper deals with the comparative study of resistance performance with refrigerated ice and synthetic ice according to the variation of hull form characteristics. The resistance test has been conducted in pack ice condition in each concentration condition.
