Investigating the effect of rotational degree of freedom on a circular cylinder at low reynolds number in cross flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Numerical simulations of Vortex-Induced Vibrations (VIV) of a circular cylinder in cross flow with a rotational degree of freedom about its axis have been carried out by means of a finite-volume method.

Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy in Bionanotechnology: Current Advances and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) enables the nanoscale mapping of electrostatic surface potentials. While widely applied in materials science, its use in biological systems remains emerging. This review presents recent advances in KPFM applied to biological samples and provides a critical perspective on current limitations and future directions for

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...

Chaotic Vibrations in a Buckled Beam Induced by a Galloping Phenomenon

open access: yes, 2008
Chaos theory has spectacularly evolved since the pioneering work by E. Lorenz on chaotic motion in a simple, deterministic system. Since then, the chaotic behavior of many other deterministic, low-dimensional systems in a large variety of fields has been ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Flexible Dielectric Acoustic Resonator Patch for Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible dielectric acoustic resonator patch enables MHz‐range ultrasound generation through resonance amplification without using piezoelectric materials. Conformal integration on a curved substrate allows efficient acoustic delivery to tissue‐mimicking environments.

Electromagnetic vibrational harvester based on U-shaped ferromagnetic cantilever: A novel two-magnet configuration

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X
Electromagnetic vibrational harvesters are low-cost devices featuring high-power densities and robust structures, often used for capturing the energy of environmental vibrations (civil infrastructures, transportation, human motion, etc.,).

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Experimental Investigation of Vibration Control in Timber–Concrete Composite (TCC) Floors Using Tuned Mass Damper

open access: yesBuildings
Timber–concrete composite (TCC) floors are gaining popularity in sustainable construction due to their enhanced stiffness and structural efficiency. However, excessive vibrations, particularly those induced by human activity, pose significant challenges ...
