Goodbye flat lymphoma biology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) biological systems have become key tools in lymphoma research, offering reliable in vitro and ex vivo platforms to explore pathogenesis and support precision medicine. This review highlights current 3D non‐Hodgkin lymphoma models, detailing their features, advantages, and limitations, and provides a broad perspective on future ...

Of tissue blocks and higher anatomy: A typical day in the life of a BSc (Anatomy) student

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery, 2008
A chance to slow the frenetic pace of the day that was, I shed my shoes and slip into the sweet embrace of my blankets. With one eye and a tired thumb I key in ‘6.30 AM’ into my alarm…’Wishful thinking’ I say to myself.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

The anabolic steroid stanozolol is a potent inhibitor of human MutT homolog 1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MutT homolog 1 (MTH1) is a member of the NUDIX superfamily of enzymes and is an anticancer drug target. We show that stanozolol (Stz), an anabolic steroid, is an unexpected nanomolar inhibitor of MTH1. The X‐ray crystal structure of the human MTH1–Stz complex reveals a unique binding scaffold that could be utilized for future inhibitor development ...

Neutrophil deficiency increases T cell numbers at the site of tissue injury in mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In wild‐type mice, injury or acute inflammation induces neutrophil influx followed by macrophage accumulation. Mcl1ΔMyelo (neutrophil‐deficient) mice lack neutrophils, and in response to muscle injury show fewer macrophages and exhibit strikingly elevated T‐cell numbers, primarily non‐conventional “double‐negative” (DN) αβ and γδ T cells.

The involvement of TRPV1 in the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells in the testis of mice with cryptorchidism

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Cryptorchidism is associated with an increased risk of male infertility and testicular cancer. Persistent exposure to high temperature in cryptorchidism can lead to the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), a

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...
