Low-dose ciprofloxacin for selective decontamination of the digestive tract in human volunteers [PDF]

open access: bronzeEuropean Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 1990
The effect on the faecal aerobic and anaerobic flora of ciprofloxacin given in low doses for selective decontamination of the digestive tract was investigated in ten human volunteers. The volunteers received 50, 100 and 200 mg of ciprofloxacin every 12 h for five days at intervals of three and five weeks respectively.

Optimization and evaluation of new decontamination procedures inactivating human prions

open access: hybridJournal of Hospital Infection
Prions are protein-only infectious agents for which no prophylactic or curative treatment exists. There is a need for formulations effective against human prions and robust in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation protocols. To compare infectivity bioassays with those of their protein misfolding cyclic amplification (PMCA) counterparts to propose a robust method
