Physical and chemical processing for a human dura mater substitute

Chemical and physical procedures, developed to inactivate virus and bacteria, have been applied to fascia lata. Ultrastructure of the human spinal arachnoid mater and dura mater.

Human spinal dura and arachnoid, obtained during neurosurgical operations, were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The ultrastructure of spinal meninges largely conformed to the morphology of the cranial meninges, but some minor differences were detected.

We have used a glycerol-treated human dura mater valve as a valve substitute of the blood pumps for more than 3 years. In comparative studies, it was shown that the dura mater valve is more durable than the glutaraldehyde-treated bovine aortic valves, and thought to be a very attractive valve material.
