A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

Evaluation of Forward Fall on the Outstretched Hand Using MADYMO Human Body Model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Falls and their related injuries pose a significant risk to human health. One of the most common falls, the forward fall, frequently occurs among adults and the elderly. In this study, we propose using a human body model, developed using the MAthematical DYnamic MOdel (MADYMO) software, in place of human subjects, to investigate forward fall-related ...

Relevance of Animal Experiments to Humans

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1979
The best evidence of an adverse human health effect is a properly conducted epidemiological study. But human beings should not be the sole test animal. Properly conducted animal studies have been shown to be preductive for carcinogenicity and toxicologic responses in human populations.

Hydrogen sulfide repairs testicular damage induced by heat stress in rats

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Heat stress can cause testicular damage and affect fertility. We investigated the potential protective role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) against heat stress‐induced testicular injury and observed that H2S donor NaHS can effectively restore testicular damage in rats by inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress. Our results suggest that H2S might be used
