COMPOSITION OF THE HUMAN ZONA-PELLUCIDA AND MODIFICATIONS FOLLOWING FERTILIZATION

open access: yes, 2015
The composition of individual human zonae pellucidae and modifications to this extracellular coat both before and after fertilization were analysed using a rapid, sensitive, non-radioactive biotinylation- or lectin-based detection system; these assays ...

Cost-effectiveness comparison between pituitary down-regulation with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist short regimen on alternate days and an antagonist protocol for assisted fertilization treatments

open access: yes, 2013
Objective: To compare cost-effectiveness between pituitary down-regulation with a GnRH agonist (GnRHa) short regimen on alternate days and GnRH antagonist (GnRHant) multidose protocol on in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Serum hyperglycosylated human chorionic gonadotropin to predict the gestational outcome in in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection pregnancies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Hyperglycosylated human chorionic gonadotropin (H-hCG) is secreted by the placenta in early pregnancy. Decreased H-hCG levels have been associated with abortion in spontaneous pregnancy. We retrospectively measured H-hCG and dimeric hCG in the sera of 87

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Not just semantics: CO2 fertilization can be a disturbance leading to worldwide forest degradation

open access: yesPlants, People, Planet
Societal Impact Statement The physiological effects of increased atmospheric CO2 (CO2 fertilization) on intact forests are generally seen as a process that might buffer them against the impacts of climate change. However, CO2 fertilization can also cause

Pollen tube contents from failed fertilization contribute to seed coat initiation in Arabidopsis [version 2; peer review: 2 approved, 1 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2019
Plant seeds are essential for human beings, constituting 70% of carbohydrate resources worldwide; examples include rice, wheat, and corn. In angiosperms, fertilization of the egg by a sperm cell is required for seed formation; therefore, fertilization ...

Paternal Circadian Disruption Impairs Offspring Cognition via Sperm microRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Paternal circadian disruption remodels the sperm small RNA payload, elevating miR‐92a‐3p/miR‐25‐3p levels and perturbing early embryonic gene regulatory programs. Microinjection experiments and single‐embryo transcriptomics reveal sex‐specific developmental vulnerabilities, ultimately impairing offspring hippocampal synaptic plasticity and cognition ...

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Smoking, haptoglobin and fertility in humans

open access: yesTobacco Induced Diseases, 2003
A prospective study on two samples of consecutive puerperae (total n degrees 667) from two populations has been carried out in order to investigate the possible effect of smoking habit on relationship between fertility and haptoglobin phenotype. In both populations the negative association previously reported between age of pueperae and Haptoglobin *1 ...

Different evaluation of human sperm hypoosmotic swelling test and its relationship with the outcome of in-vitro fertilization of human occytes

open access: yes, 1990
The hypoosmotic swelling test is a simple laboratory test to measure the functional integrity of the human sperm membrane, Its in-vivo and in-vitro applicability needs to be evaluated before it can be accepted as a useful routine test for the fertilizing
