Cryptococcal meningitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans VNI in a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) with progressive neurological disease

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 103, Issue 8, Page 487-493, August 2025.
Nearly all cases of cryptococcosis in koalas are caused by Cryptococcus gattii species complex. A rare case of meningitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans VNI/AFLP1 (abbreviated VNI) is described in a koala with nasal colonisation by both species complexes.

T cells from newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis patients have enhanced responsiveness to CD46 activation

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 214-226, August 2025.
Abstract Objective To evaluate the responsiveness of T cells from newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis (MS) patients to CD46 co‐stimulation, a membrane co‐factor protein potentially involved in MS pathogenesis. Methods T cells from MS patients and non‐diseased symptomatic controls (SC) were activated in vitro with or without αCD46 antibody co‐stimulation.

Torque teno virus as a marker of immune status in immunocompromised patients: A systematic review

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 55, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Background Torque teno virus (TTV) is not known to cause disease in humans; however, chronic inflammatory conditions and immunosuppression states can favour TTV replication. This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of TTV as an immune biomarker.

TNFSF14‐HVEM/LTβR Exacerbates Keratinocyte Abnormalities and IMQ‐Induced Psoriatic Skin Inflammation via Activating NF‐κB/TWIST1 Signalling Pathway

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 15, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Psoriasis (PS) is a chronic autoimmune skin disease that poses a serious threat to over 100 million patients worldwide. An increasing number of studies have indicated that keratinocytes (KCs) play an essential role in the inflammatory progression of PS. The present study found that tumour necrosis factor superfamily member 14 (TNFSF14) and its

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Response to Influenza in Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus), a Potential Wild Reservoir

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 15, August 2025.
ABSTRACT RNA viruses are infamous for their ability to cross species barriers, posing threats to global health and security. Influenza A virus (IAV) is naturally found in avian hosts but periodically spills over into marine wildlife. IAV outbreaks occur in the Northwest Atlantic, but grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) appear to be less susceptible to IAV ...
