Human herpesvirus 6A induces apoptosis of HSB-2 cells via a mitochondrion-related caspase pathway

open access: greenJournal of Biomedical Research, 2010
Apoptosis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of viral infections. In this study, we investigated the cell death processes during productive HHV-6A infection and the underlying mechanisms. Annexin V-PI staining and electron microscopy indicated that HHV-6A is a strong inducer of apoptosis.

Epidemiology and fitness effects of wood mouse herpesvirus in a natural host population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Rodent gammaherpesviruses have become important models for understanding human herpesvirus diseases. In particular, interactions between murid herpesvirus 4 and Mus musculus (a non-natural host species) have been extensively studied under controlled ...

Crystal Structure of the DNA-Binding Domain of Human Herpesvirus 6A Immediate Early Protein 2 [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Virology, 2017
ABSTRACT Immediate early proteins of human herpesvirus 6A (HHV-6A) are expressed at the outset of lytic infection and thereby regulate viral gene expression. Immediate early protein 2 (IE2) of HHV-6A is a transactivator that drives a variety of promoters.

RNA-binding protein CPEB1 remodels host and viral RNA landscapes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Host and virus interactions occurring at the post-transcriptional level are critical for infection but remain poorly understood. Here, we performed comprehensive transcriptome-wide analyses revealing that human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection results in

Cyclin-dependent kinase-like function is shared by the beta- and gamma- subset of the conserved herpesvirus protein kinases. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
The UL97 protein of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV, or HHV-5 (human herpesvirus 5)), is a kinase that phosphorylates the cellular retinoblastoma (Rb) tumor suppressor and lamin A/C proteins that are also substrates of cellular cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks)

Genome signatures, self-organizing maps and higher order phylogenies: a parametric analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Genome signatures are data vectors derived from the compositional statistics of DNA. The self-organizing map (SOM) is a neural network method for the conceptualisation of relationships within complex data, such as genome signatures.

Multiple human herpesvirus-8 infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In Malawian patients with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and their relatives, we investigated nucleotide-sequence variation in human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) subgenomic DNA, amplified from oral and blood samples by use of polymerase chain reaction.

ERK1/2 and MEK1/2 Induced by Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (Human Herpesvirus 8) Early during Infection of Target Cells Are Essential for Expression of Viral Genes and for Establishment of Infection [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Virology, 2005
ABSTRACT Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) in vitro target cell infection is characterized by the expression of the latency-associated genes ORF 73 (LANA-1), ORF 72, and K13 and by the transient expression of a very limited number of lytic genes such as lytic cycle switch gene ORF 50 (RTA) and the immediate early (IE) lytic K5 ...

Association of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances with Allostatic Load Stratified by Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 Exposure

open access: yesToxics, 2023
Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1 and 2 are persistent infections that affect a significant percentage of United States (US) adults, with 48% having HSV-1 and 12% having HSV-2.
