Characterization of human leukocyte differentiation antigens

Immunology Today, 1987
What would impel 190 different laboratories to work together in the performance of more than 150 000 assays to characterize about 800 antibodies? Participants in the 3rd International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens generally shared the conviction that such cooperative effort has the potential to bring order out of the chaos of ...

Human Leukocyte Antigens in Bell's Palsy

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1988
Ninety-three patients with Bell's palsy including 12 members of two families with familial Bell's palsy were typed for human leukocyte antigens (HLAs). Significant association between HLAs and Bell's palsy was found. The association of certain HLAs with the palsy may predict the specific clinical course and prognosis.

Becoming a chef in the human leukocyte antigen kitchen

Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2017
Fluorescence-based human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibody detection methods, including flow cytometric crossmatch and single antigen bead assays revolutionized HLA antibody identification and assessment of immunological risk in transplant candidates and patients. Nevertheless, these assays are not flawless and their interpretation can be complex.

The human leukocyte antigens and their relationship to infection

The American Journal of Surgery, 1993
Human leukocyte antigen DR (HLA-DR) expression on peripheral blood monocytes has been found to correlate highly with infection in many clinical scenarios. This is particularly true for the trauma patient, where changes in HLA-DR expression predate and therefore often predict development of infection.

Surface Antigens of Human Leukocytes

1991
Publisher Summary The aim of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive overview of the well-characterized surface molecules of human leukocytes. It is useful to have a brief compilation of this field as a whole that would enable one to quickly find at least the basic information on both the well-known and less familiar molecules and provide a ...

Transplants across human leukocyte antigen barriers

Seminars in Hematology, 2002
Clinical experience with full haplotype-mismatched stem cell transplants has a 20-year history. Early results in leukemia patients were disappointing because of a high incidence of severe graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in T-replete transplants or high rejection rates in T-cell-depleted transplants.

Advances in Human Leukocyte Antigens and Transplantation

1993
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the advances made in human leukocyte antigens and transplantation. The transplantation of skin from one part of the body to another are performed since ancient times, not only in the repair of injuries caused by warfare but also to make good mutilations imposed as punishments for infidelity, thievery, and other ...
