Gene losses during human origins.
Pseudogenization is a widespread phenomenon in genome evolution, and it has been proposed to serve as an engine of evolutionary change, especially during human origins (the "less-is-more" hypothesis).

Global declines in human‐driven mangrove loss [PDF]
Global mangrove loss has been attributed primarily to human activity. Anthropogenic loss hotspots across Southeast Asia and around the world have characterized the ecosystem as highly threatened, though natural processes such as erosion can also play a ...

Aminoglycoside-induced hearing loss in humans [PDF]

In-body path loss models for implants in heterogeneous human tissues using implantable slot dipole conformal flexible antennas [PDF]
A wireless body area network (WBAN) consists of a wireless network with devices placed close to, attached on, or implanted into the human body. Wireless communication within a human body experiences loss in the form of attenuation and absorption.

High-resolution mapping of losses and gains of Earth’s tidal wetlands
Tidal wetlands are expected to respond dynamically to global environmental change, but the extent to which wetland losses have been offset by gains remains poorly understood.

Human Capital Loss in Corporate Bankruptcy [PDF]
This paper quantifies the “human costs of bankruptcy” by estimating employee wage losses induced by the bankruptcy filing of employers using employee-employer matched data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s LEHD program. We find that employee wages begin to deteriorate one year prior to bankruptcy.

The impact of leopards (Panthera pardus) on livestock losses and human injuries in a human-use landscape in Maharashtra, India [PDF]
There are many ways in which large carnivores and humans interact in shared spaces. In this study we provide insights into human-leopard relationships in an entirely modified, human-dominated landscape inhabited by dense populations of humans (266 per ...

GENE LOSS IN HUMAN TERATOMAS [PDF]
If benign cystic teratomas (dermoid cysts) of the ovary arise from a germ cell that has undergone meiosis, they should be missing genes which are present in the person. Three independently segregating allelic isozymes in 11 benign cystic teratomas of the human female ovary were compared with normal tissue of the same case.
