Evidence of Iron Accumulation in Cerebral Adrenoleukodystrophy: A Potential Novel Disease Mechanism
ABSTRACT In this first application of Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Source Separation to cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, we uncovered alterations in iron and myelin within lesions and normal appearing white matter. As validation, we demonstrate abnormal iron accumulation in those same compartments within primary brain tissue.

Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

Human chylomicron apolipoprotein metabolism
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1978Abstract Chylomicron apolipoprotein metabolism was studied utilizing chylomicrons isolated from the pleural fluid of a patient with a recurrent chylous pleural effusion. Chylomicrons contained apolipoproteins A-I, A-II, B, C-I, C-II, C-III, D, E, and albumin.

AbstractNon‐invasive microanalytical methods have been devised to study the energy metabolism of single human preimplantation embryos. Psyruvate, which is added routinely to all media used to culture human embryos, is consumed throughout the preimplantation period, with glucose assuming an increasing role at embryo compaction and blastocyst formation ...

Free ammonium ions are produced and consumed during cell metabolism. Glutamine synthetase utilizes free ammonium ions to produce glutamine in the cytosol whereas glutaminase and glutamate dehydrogenase generate free ammonium ions in the mitochondria from glutamine and glutamate, respectively.

HUMAN METABOLISM OF CYPROHEPTADINE
Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1975Gas-liquid chromatographic and mass, nuclear magnetic resonance, and infrared spectrometric techniques were utilized to identify some of the metabolites of cyproheptadine in the urine of human subjects who had ingested radiolabeled drug. Aromatic ring hydroxylation (followed by glucuronide conjugation), N-demethylation, and heterocyclic ring oxidation ...

Cell Metabolism
The heart is the most metabolically active organ in the human body, and cardiac metabolism has been studied for decades. However, the bulk of studies have focused on animal models. The objective of this review is to summarize specifically what is known about cardiac metabolism in humans.

Studies of pyrimidine metabolism in man have assumed interest in recent years with the recognition of specific alterations in their synthesis and excretion in certain diseases. Further, several pyrimidine antimetabolites have been introduced into cancer chemotherapy, and the metabolic alterations produced by some of these, 6-azauridine, has been a ...
