Research on integration of visual and motion cues for flight simulation and ride quality investigation [PDF]

open access: yes
Vestibular perception and integration of several sensory inputs in simulation were studied. The relationship between tilt sensation induced by moving fields and those produced by actual body tilt is discussed.

Histopathologic Findings in Peripheral Vestibular System From Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesOtology & Neurotology, 2015
We hypothesized that a pathologic condition exists in vestibular hair cells in human temporal bones from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).A significant association between sensorineural hearing loss and autoimmune disease has been reported.

Treatments of unesthetic amalgam tattoo: A literature review and a case report

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background An amalgam tattoo is an iatrogenic lesion that can lead to esthetic concerns. This paper presents a literature review aimed at exploring treatment options available to clinicians for addressing this unesthetic issue. Methods The initial search identified 209 potentially relevant publications.

Beyond balance: The role of the Vestibular system in action recognition

open access: yesHeliyon
Background: Action recognition is a fundamental aspect of human interaction. This process is mediated by the activation of shared sensorimotor representations during action execution and observation.

The Relationship between Vestibular Function and Topographical Memory in Older Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2014
Research during the past two decades has demonstrated an important role of the vestibular system in topographical orientation and memory and the network of neural structures associated with them.

Modified Neumann incision for implant placement in overdentures: Case series of a less invasive alternative

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Conventional envelope flap techniques for implant placement in edentulous mandibles are associated with greater postoperative morbidity, especially in elderly patients or those with anatomical limitations. Minimally invasive alternatives aim to preserve soft tissues and reduce complications, enhancing clinical predictability ...

Plastin 1 widens stereocilia by transforming actin filament packing from hexagonal to liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
With their essential role in inner-ear function, stereocilia of sensory hair cells demonstrate the importance of cellular actin protrusions. Actin packing in stereocilia is mediated by crosslinkers of the plastin, fascin, and espin families.

Flap perfusion of superficial split flap design for guided bone regeneration: A case report with ultrasonography

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Effective flap management is crucial for successful bone regeneration procedures. Traditional flap release has been performed by the deep split design; recently, the superficial split design revives for its proposed anatomical and biomechanical advantages.

Fundamental characteristics of the vestibular coordinate system in human craniology

open access: yesJournal of the Anthropological Society of Nippon, 1981
The present study concerns with the methodological aspects of the vestibular method of orientating the cranium, which is mainly recommended for its physiological significance. Three dimensional coordinates of 36 landmarks were examined in the vestibular coordinate system which is defined by the plane of the lateral semicircular canals.
