Engineering Pluripotent Stem Cells‐Derived Inner Ear Organoids With Enhanced Maturation and Reproducibility by Micro‐Topographical Cues

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐topographical cues applied through temporally controlled microscale confinement improve the reproducibility, spatial organization, and neurosensory‐associated features of pluripotent stem cell‐derived inner ear organoids. Integration with a vascularized organoid platform further enables controlled investigation of vascular‐epithelial interactions

Vestibular Functions and Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
For decades it has been speculated that Parkinson's Disease (PD) is associated with dysfunction of the vestibular system, especially given that postural instability is one of the major symptoms of the disorder.

Head and trunk movement strategies in quiet stance : from the deficit of vestibular loss to the expertise of tightrope walkers via prosthetic feedback [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Is the head more locked to the trunk or stabilised in space during quite stance? Does prosthetic vestibular feedback have a positive impact on movement strategies and muscle synergies of those with vestibular loss?

An Imaging‐Guided, Patient‐Specific Guiding Aid (RWNGuide) for Safe and Reproducible Inner Ear Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A patient‐specific, imaging‐guided aid enables precise and reproducible drug delivery to the inner ear. By guiding therapeutic agents directly to the round window niche, this approach reduces variability in drug localization, improves delivery safety, and addresses a critical bottleneck in inner ear therapy, offering a scalable strategy for precision ...

Finding a Balance: A Systematic Review of the Biomechanical Effects of Vestibular Prostheses on Stability in Humans

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology, 2020
The vestibular system is located in the inner ear and is responsible for maintaining balance in humans. Bilateral vestibular dysfunction (BVD) is a disorder that adversely affects vestibular function.

On the vertigo due to static magnetic fields. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Vertigo is sometimes experienced in and around MRI scanners. Mechanisms involving stimulation of the vestibular system by movement in magnetic fields or magnetic field spatial gradients have been proposed.

Molecular and Cellular Hallmarks of Age‐Related Vestibular Hair Cell Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilizes single‐cell RNA‐seq transcriptomes, advanced imaging, and electrophysiology to examine universal and cell‐type‐specific aging signatures of vestibular hair cells. The study shows that impaired hair bundle function is a key driver of age‐related vestibular dysfunction.

Vestibular stimulation-induced facilitation of cervical premotoneuronal systems in humans

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
It is unclear how descending inputs from the vestibular system affect the excitability of cervical interneurons in humans. To elucidate this, we investigated the effects of galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) on the spatial facilitation of motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) induced by combined pyramidal tract and peripheral nerve stimulation.
