Electro-Mechanical Model of the Human Visual System
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1957A servomechanism is described which simulates the eye response in directing visual receptors. Feedback to provide corrective directing is based upon matching the images conducted to the “brain” by the neurons. The model uses photoelectric cells to receive the images. The image from each receptor unit (eye) is separated into two parts.

A computational model for human visual motion perception system
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1999Abstract Reichardt's elementary motion detectors are employed for detecting motion. Moving image-stationary background discrimination is realized by correlating the detected motion information with properly delayed visual afterimages. Fuzzy-set theory is used in a nonlinear integration algorithm for obtaining a moving object direction.

Modeling the contrast-sensitivity function of the human visual system
Journal of Optical Technology, 2015Based on a representation of the receptive fields of the human retina, a mathematical model has been developed that describes the primary stage of the processing of visual information, taking into account the internal noise of the photoreceptors. The hypothesis is advanced that the visual perception power of an image is the result of the sum of the ...

A Pattern Processing Model of the Human Visual System
1975Basically there are two approaches to simulation. The first type involves the analysis of the “real” system, so as to identify the critical processes performed by the system. The second type is not concerned at all with the processes performed by the “real” system but is solely interested in the input and output of the system.

Visual system pathology in humans and animal models of blast injury
Journal of Comparative Neurology, 2017AbstractInjury from blast exposure is becoming a more prevalent cause of death and disability worldwide. The devastating neurological impairments that result from blasts are significant and lifelong. Progress in the development of effective therapies to treat injury has been slowed by its heterogeneous pathology and the dearth of information regarding ...

Area Summation in Human Visual System: Psychophysics, fMRI, and Modeling
Journal of Neurophysiology, 2009Contextual modulation is a fundamental feature of sensory processing, both on perceptual and on single-neuron level. When the diameter of a visual stimulus is increased, the firing rate of a cell typically first increases (summation field) and then decreases (surround field).

Human Visual System and Vision Modeling
2018The computational modeling of human visual system (HVS) is closely connected with image quality assessment (IQA) since visual signal quality is always finally evaluated by the former. Therefore, basic knowledge about HVS, especially its parts that are in charge of quality perception, should be aware of for studying IQA.

A human visual system model for no-reference digital video quality estimation
SPIE Proceedings, 2005No-reference metrics are very useful for In-Service streaming applications. In this paper a blind measure for video quality assessment is presented. The proposed approach takes into account HVS Luminance Masking, Contrast Sensitivity and Temporal Masking. Video distortion level is then computed evaluating blockiness, blurring and moving artifacts.

JPEG2000 compression coding using human visual system model
Journal of Electronics (China), 2005In order to apply the Human Visual System (HVS) model to JPEG2000 standard, several implementation alternatives are discussed and a new scheme of visual optimization is introduced with modifying the slope of rate-distortion. The novelty is that the method of visual weighting is not lifting the coefficients in wavelet domain, but is complemented by code
