Evidence for a global sampling process in extraction of summary statistics of item sizes in a set
Several studies have shown that our visual system may construct a summary statistical representation over groups of visual objects. Although there is a general understanding that human observers can accurately represent sets of a variety of features ...

Humans quickly and accurately learn new visual concepts from sparse data, sometimes just a single example. The impressive performance of artificial neural networks which hierarchically pool afferents across scales and positions suggests that the ...

Emotion schemas are embedded in the human visual system
Human visual cortex contains distributed representations of emotion categories identified by a convolutional neural network model. Theorists have suggested that emotions are canonical responses to situations ancestrally linked to survival.

ExpressionBot: An Emotive Lifelike Robotic Face for Face-to-Face Communication
This article proposes an emotive lifelike robotic face, called ExpressionBot, that is designed to support verbal and non-verbal communication between the robot and humans, with the goal of closely modeling the dynamics of natural face-to-face ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Cortico-Cortical Receptive Field Estimates in Human Visual Cortex
Human visual cortex comprises many visual areas that contain a map of the visual field (Wandell et al 2007, Neuron 56 , 366–383). These visual field maps can be identified readily in individual subjects with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI ...

Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...
