Multifocal humeral fractures are extremely rare. These may affect the neck and the shaft, the shaft alone, or the diaphysis and the distal humerus. There is no classification of these fractures in the literature. From 2004 to 2010, 717 patients with humeral fracture were treated surgically at our department.

Epidemiologic Features of Humeral Fractures
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1982Five hundred sixty-four Rochester, Minnesota, residents had a total of 586 humeral fractures during the period from 1965 to 1974. Of these, 47% involved the proximal humerus, and 20% the humeral shaft, and 33% the distal humerus. The incidence of humeral fractures associated with severe trauma was relatively higher among children and young adults, and ...

Fractures of the forearm in an adult may involve the ulna, the radius, or both, or one may be fractured and the other dislocated. Because the ulna and the radius are joined by the interosseous membrane, injury to one often also affects the other. In the same way, the humerus can be effected from injuries of pressure at the site of the elbow.

The epidemiology of humeral shaft fractures
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1998We have analysed 249 consecutive fractures of the humeral shaft treated over a three-year period. The fractures were defined by their AO morphology, position, the age and gender of the patient and the mechanism of injury. Open fractures were classified using the Gustilo system and soft-tissue injury, and closed fractures using the Tscherne system ...

Proximal humeral fractures are quite frequent, especially seen in elderly females with osteopenic bone structure. Based on precise diagnostics and a consequent classification of the fracture, it is possible to define an individual treatment protocol. Doing so it is very helpful to understand the individual pathomechanism leading to the fracture pattern

Humeral shaft fractures account for approximately 7 % of all fractures in adults. They occur after direct trauma such as traffic accidents or after indirect, rotational trauma in sports accidents or falls at home. There are two peaks of incidence in the adult population: the young male and the older female.
