Nonunion of conservatively treated humeral shaft fractures is not associated with anatomic location and fracture pattern

open access: yes, 2022
INTRODUCTION: Humeral shaft fractures make up 1-3% of all fractures and are most often treated nonoperatively; rates of union have been suggested to be greater than 85%.

Arthroscopic Assisted Acromioclavicular Joint Stabilization Using a Tensionable Suture Button Construct and Cerclage Tape Augmentation

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Surgical stabilization of the acromioclavicular joint can be achieved using a variety of techniques. Coracoclavicular fixation with tapes, sutures, and button systems is one of the surgical methods used to restore stability of the acromioclavicular joint. There is currently no definitive superior technique for acromioclavicular joint fixation,

Epidemiology of humeral fractures in Malawi [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Orthopaedics, 2004
We analysed and determined retrospectively the location, age, gender and side of the body of humeral fractures from 258 antero-posterior radiographs of all patients aged 3-81 years over a 5-year period. It was observed that 160 fractures occurred on the left side while 98 were on the right side with 156 occurring in males and 102 in females.

Arthroscopy‐Assisted Fixation of Combined Coracoid Fracture and Acromioclavicular Dislocation: A Minimalist Approach

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Combined acromioclavicular dislocation and coracoid process fracture disrupts the superior shoulder suspensory complex, leading to shoulder instability that often requires surgical intervention. This rare injury, increasingly identified through advanced diagnostics, lacks consensus on the optimal treatment. We describe a minimalist arthroscopy‐

Presumed concurrent medial coronoid process fracture is a frequent radiographic finding in dogs and cats with humeral condylar fractures

open access: yes, 2023
peer reviewedAbstract OBJECTIVE To report the prevalence of presumed concurrent medial coronoid process fractures in a series of cases of humeral condylar fractures and evaluate factors influencing the presence of a suspected fracture of the medial ...

Humeral head histopathological changes in cuff tear arthropathy

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2018
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the histopathological changes in the humeral head in cuff tear arthropathy (CTA) compared with those in glenohumeral osteoarthritis (OA) and humeral neck fracture, which served as non-cuff tear controls ...

Intra‐articular Proximal Biceps Tenotomy With Extra‐articular Transfer: A Technique to Repair Full‐thickness Rotator Cuff Tears

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract The long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT), as a tendinous structure adjacent to the rotator cuff, can be easily used to repair the rotator cuff. Currently, there are many different surgical procedures for the LHBT. Direct severance of the LHBT is simple but may result in pain and deformity, and fixation of the LHBT wastes the tendinous tissue ...

Intrathoracic Fracture-Dislocation of the Humeral Head: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2010
Fracture-dislocation of the humeral head into the thoracic cavity is a rare injury. We present one such case in a 70-year-old woman. She presented with a 4-part fracture-dislocation of the proximal humerus, with displacement of the humeral head into the ...

Arthroscopic Allogeneic Bone Strip Grafting for Recurrent Shoulder Dislocation With Critical Glenoid Bone Loss: A Free Graft Suspension Fixation Technique

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract In patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation and glenoid bone loss between 10% and 20%, isolated Bankart repair remains associated with a certain rate of postoperative redislocation. The optimal management for this patient subset is controversial. We describe an all‐arthroscopic technique using allogeneic bone strips for free graft

Proximal Humeral Fracture; Predictors of Functional and Radiologic Outcome

open access: yes, 2023
Background: Despite the high prevalence of proximal humeral fracture, one of the most prevalent osteoporotic fractures, its treatment has always been challenging.
