Operative versus non-operative treatment of humeral shaft fractures: A systematic review
Background Humeral shaft fractures are common but debate still occurs as to whether these are best managed operatively or non-operatively. We sought to undertake a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised and non-randomised studies to clarify ...

Morphometric and Paleobiological Insights Into Pleistocene Sicilian Wolf Populations
ABSTRACT The Pleistocene wolves (Canis lupus) from Sicily represent one of the few known insular populations of this species from that time period. Despite their potential relevance for understanding carnivore adaptations in insular contexts, no dedicated study has previously investigated their morphology and evolutionary significance.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of caudoproximal humeral stress fracture in thoroughbred racehorses
Abstract Background Humeral stress fractures in racehorses can progress to catastrophic fracture if unrecognised. Scintigraphy is the gold standard diagnostic technique but is limited by accessibility and cost. It was hypothesised that ultrasonography could be used to visualise caudoproximal humeral stress fractures. Objectives To determine the utility

Reprodutibilidade de três classificações de fraturas na região proximal do úmero [PDF]
OBJECTIVE: To propose a new system for classifying proximal humeral neck fractures, and to evaluate intra- and interobserver agreement using the Neer system that is the most commonly used in the area and the Arbeit Gemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen ...

Three‐point bending tests in foam and cadaveric elbows consistently showed superior performance of novel TEN elbow screws in restoring elbow instability in contrast to CON docking method. TEN increased mechanical strength, enhanced suture‐screw‐bone fixation via appropriate junctional loading, and technical ease for suture tensioning.

Influence of trabecular microstructure and cortical index on the complexity of proximal humeral fractures [PDF]
Objectives: Poor bone quality increases the susceptibility to fractures of the proximal humerus. It is unclear whether local trabecular and cortical measures influence the severity of fracture patterns.

The Applications of Finite Element Analysis in Proximal Humeral Fractures
Proximal humeral fractures are common and most challenging, due to the complexity of the glenohumeral joint, especially in the geriatric population with impacted fractures, that the development of implants continues because currently the problems with ...

Abstract Objective To determine whether a secondary plate on the caudolateral aspect of the scapula increases stiffness and reduces primary plate strain compared to a single plate along the cranial scapula spine in a comminuted fracture gap model. Study design Ex vivo mechanical study. Sample population A total of 14 paired canine scapulae.

Background In proximal humeral fractures, the medial calcar is often considered an important stabilizing structure. When the medial calcar is disrupted, some patients may have accompanying humeral lesser tuberosity comminution that has not been noticed ...
