A protocol for the conduct of a multicentre, prospective, randomized superiority trial of surgical versus non-surgical interventions for humeral shaft fractures: the HUmeral SHaft (HUSH) fracture study

open access: yesBone & Joint Open
Aims: Fractures of the humeral shaft represent 3% to 5% of all fractures. The most common treatment for isolated humeral diaphysis fractures in the UK is non-operative using functional bracing, which carries a low risk of complications, but is ...

Mechanical Characterization of Fourth Generation Composite Humerus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Mechanical data on upper extremity surrogate bones, supporting use as biomechanical tools, is limited. The objective of this study was to characterize the structural behaviour of the fourth-generation composite humerus under simulated physiologic bending,

Treatment of pressure gun fractures and release in the wild of a caracara (Caracara plancus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract This report aims to describe the treatment progression of a free‐living southern crested caracara (Caracara plancus plancus) with gunshot‐related fractures. Radiographic examination revealed a comminuted fracture in the mid‐diaphysis of the humerus with displaced fragments, a comminuted fracture of the proximal third of the radius shaft, and ...

Final outcomes of radial nerve palsy associated with humeral shaft fracture and nonunion

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2019
Background Little evidence regarding the extent of recovery of radial nerve lesions with associated humerus trauma exists. The aim of this study is to examine the incidence and resolution of types of radial nerve palsy (RNP) in operative and nonoperative

Combined intramedullary pin and type 1a external skeletal fixator as a treatment for a comminuted Y‐T humeral fracture in a cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract A 2‐year‐old domestic cat presented following vehicular trauma. Orthopaedic evaluation revealed non‐weight‐bearing lameness of the right thoracic limb, soft tissue swelling, and crepitus upon palpation of the humerus and elbow. A severely comminuted closed Y‐T fracture of the right distal humerus was diagnosed on radiographs.

Wedge‐less V‐Shaped Distal Femoral Osteotomy Through Lateral Approach to Correct Valgus Malalignment

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, Volume 14, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Coronal‐plane deformities of the knee are prevalent skeletal abnormalities in the adolescent population. Although valgus alignment is observed less frequently than varus alignment, it predisposes patients to several pathologic sequelae, including cartilage lesions, as well as degenerative changes within the lateral compartment leading to ...

Treatment of Supracondylar Femur Fractures in Cats with EFECE System

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
The EFECE system demonstrated effective and stable fixation in feline distal supracondylar femur fractures, with complete healing observed in all cases and minimal complications. This novel method offers a promising, minimally invasive alternative for fracture management in cats.
