Fractures of the distal humerus in adults have traditionally presented a treatment challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. The combination of anatomic complexity, multifragmentary comminution, and a short distal segment, often in the setting of osteoporotic bone, renders these fractures difficult to treat successfully and often make a full restoration of

Malunion of a proximal humerus fracture often is painful and debilitating. Operative management of this deformity is technically demanding and frequently results in a relatively high rate of complications. Reconstruction involves a spectrum of procedures including excision of bony prominences, tuberosity osteotomy and realignment, and shoulder ...

Humerus varus, the upper extremity analogue of coxa vara, may be found in association with, and probably as a consequence of hematologic, infectious metabolic, genetic and neurologic disorders. No matter what the etiology, there is a similar pattern of development and progression of the deformity. The medial region of the proximal humeral physis either

Intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus are among the most challenging fractures to manage. Nonoperative treatment, although appropriate for some patients, often leads to loss of motion and unsatisfactory functional outcomes. Over the last 2 decades, enhanced operative techniques and implant designs have improved the reduction and stability of ...

Abstract Chapter 13 discusses humerus trauma. Humerus fractures are common. Based on anatomic location, they are frequently divided into proximal humerus, humeral shaft, and distal humerus fractures. In the proximal humerus, the surgical neck is most commonly injured, whereas supracondylar fractures are most common among the distal ...

The success in the treatment of the pseudoarthrosis of the humerus is related to the exact decision of the type of the non-union. According to Müllers classification it is the treatment of choice applicating plate fixation and grafting in atrophic type, revitalization and plate fixation in hypertrophic reactive type.
