Evidence for regulation of transpiration in nonstomatal plants: insights from bryophyte gametophytes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Kinetics of cell wall water vapor potential (Ψcw) and resistance of cell wall and plasmatic membrane to water flux in response to cytoplasmic water potential (Ψcyt) during dehydration. Ψcyt was calculated from the WC at any moment of the dehydration curve by using the relationship between −1/Ψw and WC of pressure volume curves and assuming Ψw = Ψcyt ...

A Portable Colorimetric Device for Rapid Bacterial Detection with Cleavable Functional Nucleic Acid Probes for A Common Bacterial Endoribonuclease

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 28, 6 July 2026.
A simple, rapid, and portable gold‐coated filter tip‐based assay (GFTA) is developed for bacterial detection. The GFTA leverages cleavable functional nucleic acid probes as molecular recognition elements to target RNase H2, a highly conserved bacterial endoribonuclease, enabling sensitive and specific colorimetric detection of bacterial pathogens ...

Current Knowledge on Phytoremediation Potential of Industrial Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) for PFAS and Heavy Metal Contaminated Soils

open access: yesRemediation Journal, Volume 36, Issue 2, Spring 2026.
ABSTRACT This review synthesizes current research on the phytoremediation potential of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) for heavy metals, including arsenic, aluminium, mercury, copper, lead, cadmium, nickel, and zinc, as well as per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly referred to as “forever chemicals.” A structured and transparent ...

Preoperative Pollen Exposure and Chronic Rhinosinusitis Outcomes After Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: A Pilot Investigation

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Although particulate matter is an environmental factor that may increase the risk of developing chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), the impact of pollen on CRS outcomes is understudied. Here, we analyzed the effects of preoperative pollen exposure on disease‐specific and general quality‐of‐life (QOL) outcomes after endoscopic sinus ...

Characterization and Removal of Multispecies Biofilms Formed by L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, and E. coli

open access: yesJournal of Food Safety, Volume 46, Issue 4, August 2026.
The formation of mono‐, dual‐, and triple‐species biofilms by L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, and E. coli was characterized by cell growth, metabolic activity, staining, and microscopy. Their resistance to a commercial disinfectant (NaOCl) and natural agents such as vinegar and lactic acid was evaluated.
