Mechanisms of Aristolochic Acid Resistance in Specialist Butterflies and Evolutionary Insights for Potential Protective Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study provides an extreme example of insect adaptation to highly toxic defenses of host plants, and investigates the complex strategies to resist carcinogenic aristolochic acids, including physical isolation, metabolic detoxification, and DNA repair.

African evolutionary history inferred from whole genome sequence data of 44 indigenous African populations

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2019
Background Africa is the origin of modern humans within the past 300 thousand years. To infer the complex demographic history of African populations and adaptation to diverse environments, we sequenced the genomes of 92 individuals from 44 indigenous ...

Engineered Small Extracellular Vesicles Targeting Tumor‐Associated Endothelial Cells to Effectively Remodel the Glioma Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed a novel drug delivery platform that overcomes the blood‐brain barrier in glioblastoma. By fusing IGFBP7 with small extracellular vesicles, the platform specifically targets tumor vasculature. It effectively delivers temozolomide, suppressing tumor growth at low doses.

Substituent‐Based Modulation of Self‐Assembly and Immunogenicity of Amphipathic Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study systematically investigates how positional and subtle changes, such as substituents on the phenyl ring attached to short amphipathic peptides, influence their self‐assembly, fibril morphology, and immunogenic responses. ABSTRACT Self‐assembled peptide‐based biomaterials provide versatile platforms for biomedical uses, featuring customizable ...

Mortality, fertility, and the OY ratio in a model hunter–gatherer system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
An agent‐based model (ABM) is used to explore how the ratio of old to young adults (the OY ratio) in a sample of dead individuals is related to aspects of mortality, fertility, and longevity experienced by the living population from which the sample was ...

SAGE: Spatially Aware Gene Selection and Dual‐View Embedding Fusion for Domain Identification in Spatial Transcriptomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SAGE is a unified framework for spatial domain identification in spatial transcriptomics that jointly models tissue architecture and gene programs. Topic‐driven gene selection (NMF plus classifier‐based scoring) highlights spatially informative genes, while dual‐view graph embedding fuses local expression and non‐local functional relations.

Hunter gatherer: within-web-page collection making

open access: yes, 2002
Hunter Gatherer is a tool that lets Web users carry out three main tasks: (1) collect components from within Web pages; (2) represent those components in a collection; and (3) edit those collections. We report on the design and evaluation of the tool and
