Direct Observation of the Space Hurricane Disturbed Polar Thermosphere

The space hurricane is a three‐dimensional magnetic vortex structure with strong flow shears and electron precipitation in the polar cap. This study investigates for the first time how a space hurricane disturbs the polar thermosphere.

Weathering the storm: Most maternal and environmental drivers of individual reproductive success do not scale up to population recruitment in a large herbivore

Using 18 years of data on eastern grey kangaroos, we show that drivers of individual reproductive success often do not scale up to population recruitment. Birth asynchrony could buffer population recruitment against environmental variability, such that variables affecting individual reproduction have little impact at the population level.

Rapid loss, and slow recovery, of coral reef structural complexity resulting from a prolonged marine heatwave

Using Structure‐from‐Motion photogrammetry in a longitudinal study, we show that although coral reef habitat complexity had declined significantly by the end of the most prolonged tropical marine heatwave on record, no further losses were detected and 3 years later the reef had begun to recover this critical ecosystem function.
